WHY GREEN BURIAL?
Conventional burial usually involves a hard wood coffin, often cut from old growth forests, lacquered with chemicals and placed deep into a grave fortified with a concrete or steel vault. Coffins are generally lined with plastic and/or synthetic fabrics and the body may be chemically embalmed. Sealing bodies within non-biodegradable coffins produces greenhouse gases whilst offering nothing but toxic residue to the environment. Cremation releases an incredible amount of carbon and toxic gases, and the high pH and sodium levels of cremains makes them harmful to plant life when scattered.
Alternatively, green burials feature exclusively biodegradable and sustainable materials, no embalming, shallower graves and ecologically natural grave sites that provide habitat for native flora and fauna. Green burial is the natural choice to honour the ecological values held in life.
