It can be overwhelming to organise a funeral and burial for a loved one, especially if they specifically wanted a green burial and you felt as though you did not know where to begin. This blog post is to help guide you towards funeral professionals who understand and can facilitate a green burials, it is not an exhaustive list but a place to start.
We recently attended a webinar by the Natural Death Advocacy Network (NDAN) featuring Warren Roberts (the founder of Living Legacy Forests) and Bob Jenkins (the founder of Let Your Love Grow), and I realised just how little is known about the true effects of cremation on the environment.
Alyssa and Tamsin (owners/directors of Heaven and Earth Eco Burial Products) collaborated with Dr Leanne Kelly to write this article which was published in the New Community Journal in October 2021. Critical awakening around death: Exercising agency over our mortal remains outlines many of the issues faced when a loved one dies, the benefits of green burial and the rights and options we have when planning an end of life service.
Funeral products can be used in other ways, for other reasons. We can live with our future coffin and use it practically in our homes, we just need to work past the stigma surrounding death and death related products and, well maybe get a bit creative!
