Heaven and Earth Eco Burial Products have been hosting online death cafes for some time now. We are regularly asked:
What is a ‘Death Cafe’?
Death Cafes are a social franchise where attendees can openly discuss death in a safe and relaxed atmosphere. No death related topic is off the table! Attendees are able to join a café and know that they can share experiences, ask questions and make suggestions and no one will chastise them for being “morbid” or uncomfortably change the topic.
The original concept was developed by an Englishman, Jon Underwood, who was inspired by the work of Bernard Crettaz who ran Café Mortel in Europe. Since the first café, which was held in Jon’s basement in September 2011, there have been thousands of cafes held all over the world. Originally these cafes were held in person so people could have a coffee and a piece of cake to aid the relaxing atmosphere. Whilst in person cafes still happen regularly, there are now also online death cafes available. We choose to host online cafes, as we feel this makes the cafes more accessible to a greater variety of interested people, including those (like us!) who have young children. Our online cafes often include attendees from regional areas, interstate, and even overseas. We have found that, since Covid, most people tend to be comfortable with online platforms, but we understand it is not for everyone. If you are wanting to find a death cafe to attend, https://deathcafe.com has a list of upcoming events being held around the world.
We host Death Cafes about every two months and post the events on our social media pages and on linktree (https://linktree/HeavenEarthEcoBurialProducts). Our next event will be held on World Environment Day, June 5th 2024, at 12:30pm Melbourne AEST. To join us, please click this link:
